The Bronco Freeze is a tradition at HC where students, faculty and staff jump into Lake Hastings to mark the beginning of spring. The event is typically held the week before spring break.
After last year's small turnout, the tradition nearly came to an end. It was up to participants this year to attend the event and keep the tradition going. Over 150 students took the plunge this year into the less than freezing swimming pool water.
The event turned in to a campus swimming party complete with KFKX music, prizes and food.
Students competed to win frozen 10 dollar bills thrown into the pool and dressed up to for a chance to win the best costume award. The prize for best costume went to Olen King for the second year in a row.
The most coveted prize of the day was a 300 dollar spring break travel voucher, which was given away by raffle.
Although the event did not happen as planned, students made the most of the conditions. "We were all obviously disappointed that we couldn't jump in Lake Hastings, but it seemed like everyone still had a good time, which is what matters," said Justin Goetsch.
Student Alumni Ambassadors sponsor this event each year as one of the most well known traditions at HC.
